Our Story
Tammy Wingate, an award-winning educator and visionary entrepreneur, is the Founder of Buckhead Preparatory School. With a lifelong dedication to developing skills in learners of all ages., Tammy began her career in New York City, providing cutting-edge computer training to Fortune 100 executives and entrepreneurs including fashion icon Vera Wang.

Her passion for teaching also flourished at prestigious institutions like the Brearley and Ramaz schools, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Inspired by her diverse teaching experiences, Tammy founded Buckhead Preparatory School in 2006, to meet Atlanta’s need for a preschool that blends basic reading, writing, and math skills development with arts, STEM, and play.
Under her leadership, the school has grown to serve children through Grade 5, impacting over 3,000 young learners and earning accolades including “Best Preschool in Atlanta” and “Best Elementary School in Atlanta” by The Atlantan Modern Luxury Magazine, two Nickelodeon Parents’ Choice awards, and The University of Georgia’s Bulldog 100 Alumni award three times.
With Tammy’s guidance, Buckhead Prep remains dedicated to fostering strong reading, writing, and math skills, empowering each child to thrive in future education.
A North Carolina native, Tammy holds a BS from Atlantic Christian College, an MA from New York University where she was awarded the Agnew Award and Honorarium and induction into a educational research honor society, and an MBA from the University of Georgia where she was inducted into a marketing honor society. She also pursued doctoral studies in education at UGA, embodying her commitment to lifelong learning.
Tammy and her husband, Allen, have three children, Brianne, an accomplished attorney, Zach, a PGA Professional, and Ellee, a ninth-grader and an award-winning equestrian. Beyond the classroom, she mentors aspiring educators and supports many local initiatives, ensuring Buckhead Prep stands as a cornerstone of community and excellence.
